Be aware that the license for Qt is not LGPL, but GPL. I think that they have a special license exception so you can also link against code licensed under other open source licenses, but you can not keep you code proprietary (or use any proprietary content) unless you pay a license fee to Trolltech.
Really, it is best not to use Qt for anything. They are trying to collect royalties for the work of all. Basic libraries like the GUI toolkit should NOT be licensed under GPL. The LGPL is for libraries. Imagine if all of the libraries that came with GNU/Linux were GPL and you hade to pay some company or other to link proprietary code with each and every one of the libraries. There is an interesting project that got started with the Nokia web pad that uses GTK. That device also uses an Arm processor, so it would not take much to port the window manager and all to the arm boards. http://www.maemo.org/ Actually, TS should think about making a hardened version of the Nokia web pad based on the 7300 for control interfaces (fixed in a cabinet). There would be no royalties to pay on any of the software, and, you would be able to use any of the applications developed for the Nokia web pad. They could even sell the display to go with it. The 7300 platform is really going to evolve over time. Don. On 9/4/06, Eduardo Mendiola <> wrote:
