Later in this case, after I did swapoff /dev/sda3, I could umount
/mnt/cf.  

I am puzzled.  First, before I did exit, I ran a script which called
the same swapoff command.  Second, I rebooted and tried to reproduce
it (swapon, etc.), and I couldn't.
