I am not sure I can answer your specific question, but
remember these two:
1. Do a sync often and when you quit.
2. if you create a swap on CF, remember to do
swapoff before you quit.
Other than these two, I have had a lot of luck with
ext2. I am sure ext3 should be just as good.
