Keep in mind that I am currently running the Debian development image
in this case. In fact I am using NFS to mount the directory set.
To get the Netgear device to connect to my Dlink 624 router, I first
setup the router for Wireless support, BUT disabled encryption. For
experimentation , it just isn't needed yet. I also named the network
name 'fred'...for no particular reason.
I got the following from
http://at76c503a.berlios.de/distro_debian.html
I edited /etc/network/interfaces
...
# Used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8). See the interfaces(5) manpage or
# /usr/share/doc/ifupdown/examples for more information.
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.228
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.51
iface wlan0 inet static
wireless_mode managed
wireless_essid fred
wireless_channel 11
wireless_nick xlinux
address 192.168.0.90
gateway 192.168.0.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
...
And in /etc/network/ifstate
...
lo=lo
eth0=eth0
wlan0=wlan0
...
Then I rebooted.
I logged in as root and fired off ifup wlan0
and, nothing visible happend...
iwconfig though responded with a connection to the ole router and a
ping to another computer on that network worked great.
I chose 192.168.0.90 for the ip of the wireless lan for the reason of
it being fixed and below the DHCP range of the DI-624.
The web page listed above can take you to the next level I imagine for
encrypted connection.
I will try that next.
