Possible reason:

SUSE 10 kernel comes with a broken pwc module, whereas the 9.3 kernel didn't.

Make sure you overwrote that broken module in 
/lib/modules/2.6.13-15-default/kernel/drivers/usb/media/pwc

In 9.3 I put my pwc module in a different location... I put it in that same 
location when I first installed 10.0, and it wouldn't work, because that made 
two pwc modules. And it always chose the broken one.

Once I moved my good build of the module to overwrite the broken one in the 
dir above, it worked fine.
