I have a DR-680 and although I don't use it as much anymore since I bought=
the MixPre-3, I found it to be a very quiet and dependable recorder. I li=
ke the fact that there are physical switches on the top rather than having =
to hunt through menus to do things like turn on/off different channels, tur=
n on/off phantom power, etc.
I have used it with a couple of phantom powered mics (Sennheiser ME-66 and=
ME 67 and a pair of Studio Concepts C4 microphones. Those aren't the quie=
test mics in the world maybe, but I was happy with the results I got with t=
he 680.
I like mine, I still have it and wouldn't hesitate to use it. I also like=
the fact that I can power it with a cheap 12v deer feeder battery as well =
if I want to leave it for a long recording.
