Hi Brian, i've been messing around with ambisonics. I've tended to make my
own bespoke headtracking units (little box that I attach to a pair of
headphones sitting on top of the head).
But it's also possible to render ambisonics into a Youtube 360 video, and
then listen to it on your mobile phone (using a google cardboard, or just
holding it out in front of you). Ditto for Facebook 360 video on Gear VR,
oculus Go, etc.
You can also buy headtracking units, for example from audioease (the
altiverb company) as part of their 360pan suite.
Also i've been working on web audio code for ambisonic playback directly in
the browser of your mobile phone using the phone's compass (again sticking
the phone on top of your head).
Re commercial headphones, I have heard that Audeze Mobius headphones are
good: https://www.audeze.com/products/mobius-series/mobius-headphone, but I
haven't tried them myself
