Their Hybrid Limiting function sounds fascinating. The basic description se=
ems to be that you can record two versions at the same time, one x dB lower=
than the other=85and then the HL function can automatically render a file =
that uses both of the recorded files to create a file with optimum level an=
d no clipping. From the website:
"With Dual Recording and Hybrid Limiting, you=92ll never ruin a vital recor=
ding due to overload or clipping. And you won=92t have to worry about artif=
acts from aggressive limiting either. The R-07 can make two simultaneous re=
cordings=97one at full level and another at a lower level with increased he=
adroom. If there=92s unexpected clipping in the main recording, you can rep=
lace that section with a portion of the lower-level backup recording. Hybri=
d Limiting can even handle this automatically, so you get all the safety of=
limiting with none of the downsides."
Unfortunately the Manuals section of Roland=92s website doesn=92t have one =
for the R-07 yet. So no further details on that feature.
No noise specs are shown in the Specs section.
Interesting that it supports SDHC but not SDXC micro cards. And USB support=
is type 2, not type 3. Adequate for such a machine, but not the fastest tr=
ansfers or biggest storage out there.
15 hours recording time on two AA batteries. Can use rechargeable AAs, but=
doesn=92t specify whether it can charge them in the recorder. Can run off =
USB input power, so external battery options are possible.
And for nature recording, where you=92d like to place the recorder somewher=
e and then monitor it or turn recording on/off from some distance away, the=
Bluetooth features are interesting.
