1. new (?) source for custom microphone mounts

Naturerecordists,

Forgive me if this is old news but I hadn’t seen it mentioned on here before.

I should also mention that I have absolutely no affiliation with this company
other than being a satisfied customer.

I was searching online for an ORTF microphone stand/holder. I have a basic
T-bar with two microphone clips but I find that I end up fumbling around
(usually in the dark) trying to get it set up in the ORTF position and getting
everything tightened down. I also don’t like the fact that they cables of my
mics end up rather tight against each other with my current rig, making
positioning trickier. I have on more than one occasion returned from an
extended recording to see that the mounts had loosened and the mics were
pointing all sorts of weird directions.

So I did a search online for something better and stumbled across this website
which does custom 3d printing. Included in their catalog of offerings was an
ORTF bracket for my specific pair of microphones! They have different
brackets for many different mics beyond mine.

I ordered one of them and have to say I am very pleased. I can now easily and
quickly snap the mics in place and they end up at 110° and 17cm apart at the
capsules every time. It has really sped up my “workflow” in the field which
matters when you are recording amphibian choruses in the middle of the night on
the side of the road.

Yes, they are overpriced. But so is everything else for the recording field. ☹
It seems sturdy so far and it weighs next to nothing.

But if you are looking for a quick and sturdy solution to positioning mics, I
recommend checking them out.
