I would add that when in the vehicle don't touch any conductors, in fact
try to keep some distance away - including wires and recorder.  It would
be even safer if the car was grounded by a conductor.  The wheels
insulate the car somewhat and that is bad. (Lightning strikes on cars
have been known to destroy the tires as the current travels to the ground.

I've made some good recordings from within a tent with a mike pointed
out of the tent.  The grounded tent poles are great protection as long
as they are metal.
