single microphone on two channels with different level

Subject: single microphone on two channels with different level

Hi all, I need to record a wide dynamic range, with unexpected loud events,
by using a single PIP microphone connected to a stereo digital recorder.
I'm willing to record the same signal on two channels but with different
recording level. All the pocket recorders I have can't set the two channels
level independently.

So I'm asking you how to split the single microphone signal on two channels
and insert an attenuator, say, 20 dB, on one channel only.

Any hint will be greatly appreciated
