 The most important element for a successful recording is your microphone. =
This workshop gives a thorough introduction to the complex technology of mi=
crophones in preparation for our annual field recording workshop. Learn abo=
ut the different mic mechanisms (dynamic, condensor, electret), powering sc=
hemes (phantom, PIP), and directional patterns (omni, cardioid, super-direc=
tional). You will have an opportunity to try different types of microphones=
 to determine which is most useful for the kind of recording you want to do=
. Dan Dugan will teach and the NSS will host the event at Dan's laboratory.=

 32nd Annual Field Recording Workshop - Yuba Pass
 Friday June 17 - Sunday June 19, 2016
 The Nature Sounds Society (NSS) presents the thirty-second Annual Field Re=
cording Workshop June 17-19, 2016 at San Francisco State University's Yuba =
Pass Field Campus in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Each year, this workshop =
brings together dynamic speakers and trip leaders with participants interes=
ted in learning various aspects of nature sound recording and the use of na=
ture sounds in art, science, and music.
 This year's featured speakers will be announced soon. Other presenters inc=
lude Dan Dugan, who will speak about partnering with the Park Service and p=
rovide a hands-on microphone directivity session. Sharon Perry will guide t=
he "make your own windscreen" session.
 Housing is in platform tents or bring your own. Meals are provided in the =
dining hall and in the field.
 Early bird registration received before 5/15/16: $249 members, $299 non-me=
mbers; after 5/15: $299 members and $349 non-members.  The registration for=
m will be available from our web site in a couple of weeks.
