Dear Friends,
The WFAE is pleased to announce a call for participants in a Committee
on Best Practices for Metadata. The growing number of sound
archives=97-both personal and institutional--presents very real and very
important challenges to how recordings are stored and labeled. Based on
a recent and vibrant discussion on the Acoustic-Ecology listserv, we
propose to discuss and propose some working guidelines for the rest of
our community. We are especially looking for people who are interested
in archiving a personal collection, people who are currently working for
an established archive or sound collection, and people who have direct
experience in the theory and implementation of metadata practices,
especially as they relate to sound recordings.
Potential members should contact me at with
"Committee on Best Practices for Metadata" in the subject.
Please feel free to forward this invitation to other groups and
individuals, too.
Thank you. We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Eric Leonardson
President, WFAE
