Quite the opposite here in California at 38.42 =B0N, 122.55 =B0W where we=
=92re in the midst of a record 400 year drought. The crickets, usually firs=
t appear at the end of August and last into December when the winter rains =
begin and the tree frogs take over. This year, however, to the surprise of =
many local biologists, they began stridulating at the end of May=85fully 10=
weeks earlier than usual. It=92ll be curious to see how the biophony evolv=
es over the rest of the year. There were virtually none of the usual tree f=
rog choruses in January and February of 2014. Only a few occasional individ=
uals.
