Hi all,

This interesting and seemingly ferocious sounds that occurred on 2014 May 20 at
11:30p.m. about 70 minutes West of Ottawa. There was no moon and it was very
dark. The porcupines quarrelled along the ground and then in a tree. The
sounds here are from the tree area. The recording was from 20metres away with
a parabolic dish (a pair of EM172 mics & battery box) and ZoomH4N recorder. I
did not actually see any of this in the dark. But have come across this sort
of event before in the Spring. Territorial disputes? The one animal sounds a
little aggressive with its growls and made me wonder at times if it was
actually a Fisher attack on a Porcupine (we have plenty of both species here).
But no signs of blood in that area today...will check again more closely later
today.

My mic levels were certainly off initially with the loud spikes in sound. The
original recording was about 40 minutes....no post processing besides cutting a
few quieter times out.
