Certainly not feedback, it sounds like clock leakage into the preamp or ADC=
. A lot of budget recorders don't achieve adequate ground (earth) separatio=
n between their analog & digital sections & this kind of clock pollution re=
sults. Also, a number of people have experienced pollution of the audio fro=
m the LCD displays on certain units. If that noise is just a fact of life w=
ith that Olympus model you'll either want to upgrade to a cleaner recorder =
or perhaps try some gently applied noise reduction, such as iZotope RX. The=
noise is absolutely steady state & any good noise reduction software shoul=
d have no trouble separating it from the desired ambience.=0D

If it's noise from the LCD, I had a similar problem with my PCM-M10. I fixe=
d it by replacing the cable from the mic with a better shielded one. You sa=
y it used to be ok till a year ago - have you changed the cable, or perhaps=
damaged it? Could you have rerouted the cable to pass over the LCD?=0D
