It's winter here in Australia, and while many bird species are quieter this= time of year, the daddy of all songbirds, the Superb Lyrebird, is coming i= nto breeding season and the males are revving up their spectacular songs an= d mimicry. Earlier this week I spent a day in the Watagans north of Sydney, a beautifu= l area of tall eucalypt forest and lyrebirds could be heard calling literal= ly everywhere I stopped to listen. If you get a chance to head out in to th= e forests of south-east Australia at this time of year it truly is a marvel= ous experience to hear one up close. https://soundcloud.com/wildambience/superb-lyrebird-menura-novaehollandiae Marc http://wilambience.com https://www.facebook.com/wildambience |
