In 1998, Richard Francis, the original host of /A Different Nature/,
organized a 24-hour radio marathon on KBOO during which we played
nothing but sounds from the natural world.
That was the first time that several of the current members of DNC
worked together [DNC = Different Nature Collective -- not to be confused
with the Democratic National Committee]. Now, fifteen years later [sans
Richard], we will present 12 hours of uninterrupted sounds from the
natural world.
KBOO's special Earth Day broadcast commences at 7:00 AM on Monday, April
22nd, with 12 hours of news & public affairs programming surrounding
environmental issues. Then, at 7:00 PM, the voices will stop -- no
human-made sounds will go out over the air until 7:00 AM on Tuesday,
April 23rd. (Yes, humans did record the sounds that will be heard, and
yes, humans will also be engineering the broadcast, but you get the
picture.)
Listen and celebrate Earth's intricate soundprint.
