Figure 8's

Hi David,
If I may inject with a question which is nearly related to MS =
mic's. Ive used the Faulker array configuration a few times for out door re=
cording. This is two figure 8's 20cm spaced (symmetrical response / single =
diaphragm) rather than two cardioids back to back with one phase inverted. =
Question is, outdoors this works and sounds rather nice with apparent stere=
o image "way left or right" yet looking at the polar pattern side sources s=
hould be nulled - so would this be a case of reverberation pick up vs direc=
t sound for the front?

Heres a demo:

WSB is two wood spheres mounted in a rode blimp aka AB stereo.

The two planar transducers are figure 8 dynamics (flat coils not ribbon mic=
s) and theres still plenty of ambience there.

-Mike.
