well, sorry to disagree (& those who know me know i'm no Cage obsessive) but 
that wasn't the intention behind the piece & in fact it was fully explained in 
the programme notes of the first performances. Cage went on record to say it 
was (as with conventional notes played) the quality of the sound that he was 
concerned with & that 4'33 would develop with each performance.
