You could also consider getting a good external field mixer (like the sound
devices mixpre-d, for example) - routing one of these through a portable
recorder=B9s line in tends to be much quieter than using the mic input ( I
often use a bp4025 going into a mixpre-d to an edirol R-09HR=B9s line
in...sounds fantastic).
