An extraordinary time in Yosemite. January 17 and still no snow, Tioga Pass= Road was still open. All the lakes were booming loudly as the temperature = changed in the day. Geologist Val Zimmer and I went to record at Dog Lake, = undisturbed by people or traffic. Val hypothesized that the lack of an insu= lating cover of snow made the phenomenon happen every day. Cheryl Leonard l= oaned us her pair of Aquarian hydrophones. The air array was Sennheiser MKH= 20s on a Jecklin Disk. The two clips are from exactly the same time, in the air and in the ice. http://soundcloud.com/user7860487/sets/ice-booming-on-dog-lake-in -Dan |
