Shikra (Accipiter badius)

Subject: Shikra (Accipiter badius)

Here's a (rather noisy) recording of a Shikra (Accipiter badius; a small
sparrowhawk). It was perched in a tree outside my apartment, protecting
its kill from House Crows (Corvus splendens, also audible). You can also
hear some Purple Sunbirds (Cinnyris asiaticus) in the background.

Shikras are the commonest raptor in India after the ubiquitous Black
Kite. This is one of the family of three or four Shikras that lives
nearby.

Recording details:

    Species: Shikra (Accipiter badius)
    Time: 2011-07-18 13:00
    Location: New Delhi, India
    Equipment: Olympus LS-11, inbuilt mics (LOW/level 10)
    Photographs: http://orientalbirdimages.org/search.php?Bird_ID=852

I apologise for the traffic and other noises. I live near a school and a
fairly large road. I'm posting this mostly because I've heard relatively
few raptor recordings here (but I promise not to inundate the list with
a stream of crappy recordings).
