Jeff Rice recorded a trio of Great Horned Owls on Orcas Island last month and is kind enough to share their sounds with us. Listen in at the iTunes Store "Soundscapes for Birders" podcast or at http://tinyurl.com/6dgv5bm. I'd welcome any comments on what you think is going on in this encounter near the nest tree. My guess is a pair are disturbed by a third owl who is looking to move in on the pair. Jeff is the organizational brain and a principle recordist with the Western Soundscapes Archive of natural sounds at the University of Utah. www.westernsoundscape.org Kevin Colver www.7Loons.com Soundscapes for Birders - a free podcast of natural sound. |
