The best way to find the correct placement inside the dish is to place a "white noise" source (a radio tuned off-station, emitting static works well) about 100 feet from you, then point the dish at the source and move it in and out while monitoring the volume. The point at which the gain is greatest is the "sweet spot." Some recordists prefer the mic to be a little= off focus, but that's a personal choice.
