It would appear to be predicated upon extraction of directional cues from arrival times at the large array of mics. What the demo skates over is that the mic array is relatively close to the court, there are no other conversations going on in the immediate vicinity of the person speaking in each of the short instances shown, and in the much more reverberant audience space, all directional information will be highly diffuse rather than direct, thus making accurate directional cues pretty speculative. I wouldn't be too concerned at the moment about the privacy of my conversations while attending basketball games. Then again, maybe discussing illegal activities, proprietary business plans, or illicit affairs in a crowd isn't too smart, if one really wants to preserve ones privacy. Scott Fraser |
