Most devices (cheap) that I've seen with PIP have terrible self noise.=C2=
=A0 Even if the device provides PIP, using a battery box can really improve=
things noise wise.=C2=A0 From what I've heard a stronger voltage increases=
the dynamic range and therefor the SNR.=C2=A0 Not that I'd want to apply 4=
8V to a 5V device.

Battery boxes can be built, it's a fairly simple circuit.=C2=A0 They can al=
so be bought.=C2=A0 Like this one.

I bought one, but the price is a bit much.=C2=A0 Having the aluminum box to=
shield from interference and a layer of weather immunity is nice.=C2=A0 No=
t that I use mine since I now have better gear.=C2=A0 But for their mini mo=
no mic to my laptop with the battery box, it's world of difference, even th=
ough the laptop provides PIP.=C2=A0 I got it mainly because my M-Audio Mobi=
le Pre (USB interface) doesn't provide PIP.=C2=A0 And my laptops soundcard =
is otherwise hideous.
