>From a technical point of view (I'm an electrical engineer), I can only ima=
gine that there could be perhaps slight differences in the harmonic distort=
ion specification (THD) of the preamps. However, I believe that the additio=
nal distortion that could be perhaps introduced by cheaper opamps should be=
 still inaudible.

I believe that the most important and probably audible difference is the lo=
wer cut-off frequency of the 722 preamps:

HDP2: 20 Hz (=C2=B11.0 dB)
SD 7xx: 10 Hz (+0.1, -0.5 dB)

Another issue might be also the placebo effect...
