That's the classic combination. Other directivity M mics are possible, from=
 omni to super-directional. S mic is always figure-8, though that can be si=
mulated by two back-to-back cardioids connected in reverse polarity.

With two coincident omni mics you'll get mono. With two coincident cardioid=
 mics facing the same way you'll get mono. With two coincident cardioid mic=
s, their axes pointed 90 degrees apart, you get x-y stereo.
