Hi Ray--
There was a SASS-P on eBay a few days back, but as you may know, the
capsules in the "P" model are too noisy/too insensitive for use in
quiet location ambience without a lot of noise at high gain. Walter
Knapp does a modification to the P body for accepting larger, very
low noise omni mics like the mkh-20's that is popular for what you
describe <>. You'd probably need to separate
the mics a greater distance from video camera noise in quieter
places. A number of recordists on the list have made boundary rigs
and some of those use small, partially-baffled boundaries that have
imaging similarities: http://diystereoboundarymics.blogspot.com/ The
very low-noise AT4022 mics [actual, self-noise performance 8dB(A),
not the rated,13 dB(A)] are popular for these rigs ($260 each) though
they would be fairly bulky for camera mounting. Once could make a
lighter weight DIY version out of foam core with low noise EM172
capsules: http://tinyurl.com/29lhzub on a tighter budget.

Ian Rawes and others have been using the X-Y AT BP-4029 and getting
very nice results-- especially with closer subjects, around $600 I
think. M-S arrays like the Sennhesier MKH40-30 are very
popular >$2000 and would fit the video camera flash shoe as well.
These are some initial suggestions you can start researching. There
are quite a few more. Rob D.
