Here is a short recording I made just after sunrise yesterday (Tuesday
6/8) in a remote area of the Chippewa National Forest of North Central
Minnesota. Conditions: partly cloudy sky, light winds, 60 degrees (F),
high humidity, fierce mosquitoes, abundant ticks, rainy weather moving
in. The mic rig was in a small clearing where three logging trails
meet. Unfortunately it was oriented away from the calls, but there are
plenty of reflections:

Rich Peet was with me. His rig was about 40 feet from mine and
oriented toward the direction of the calls. At first we thought these
might be coyotes, since the voices seemed too high-pitched for wolves.
But there were fresh, unmistakable wolf footprints nearby. And in
nearly 20 years of visiting the area, I've seen and heard wolves, but
never coyotes. So we're thinking wolf pups.
Your thoughts?
