Here is one of the recordings I did on a recent trip to Malaysia.

As a complete newbie to sound recording I would appreciate any feedback
(it has already been pointed out that I need to look at spaced array
microphones rather than single point, but I did not have time to do this
before the start of the trip).
Generally I was not attempting to record individual creatures (wrong
equipment, and I am no naturalist), but to try and record general
ambience, where appropriate including anthrophony, e.g.:

Sometimes the balance works OK, like here (I think) but often it was
difficult to get that right (also the balance between biophony and
geophony, specifically water sounds, proved tricky).
While away I followed with interest the thread on providing good metada
for natural sound recordings. With the best will in the world I was
finding this extremely difficult (separate email to follow on the subject).
Otherwise the changes I will make for the next trip are:
- better (in particular more sensitive) microphone
- and/or some amplification for low-volume sounds
- instruments to record location and weather data
- better headphones for in-field monitoring
- (if weight allows) a computer to better listen to the results when
there is still opportunity to re-do recordings where in-field
improvements are possible
- improved protection against the distractions of mosquitos and leeches :-=
