The eight nature sound recordists that gathered this weekend at Crex
Meadows Wildlife Area in northwestern Wisconsin have now disbursed,
each returning to his own native habitat. We came from Minnesota,
Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and New York.

The weather was both beautiful (with spectacular lightning displays on
Friday night) and challenging (with high winds all day Saturday that
tapered off somewhat after sunset). Sunday, of course, was absolutely
fantastic.

Still, the group managed to capture nice recordings of all the usual
suspects: Canada Geese, Sand Hill Cranes, many species of ducks, frogs
and toads, several non-migratory songbird species, plus early arrivals
of some sub-tropicals. Some in the group were fortunate enough to
record a wolf pack calling (without any prompting) and a red fox with
kits.

Four of us surrendered to curiosity late Saturday night and did a
careful listening comparison between AudioTechnica's discontinued
AT3032 and the new AT4022 microphones. I'll let Rob report on that
when he gets back to his computer.

It was a great pleasure to hang out together, and to swap a few good
ideas and way too many bad jokes. Thanks to Rob Danielson and Rich
Peet for making it happen!

More details will surely follow...
