With the release of the PCM-M10's user guide comes the official size and weight
figures. So we can now see how the M10 compares in size to the range of
pocket-size recorders sold today.

Here's a list of popular models, sorted by volume, smallest first. The PCM-M10
is smaller than I expected, and a bit heavy for its size. Let's hope this is
because the M10 is made of more durable materials.

Olympus LS-10
132 x 48 x 22 mm
143 cc
165 g

Sony PCM-M10
114 x 62 x 22 mm
156 cc
187 g

Marantz PMD620
102 x 62 x 25 mm
158 cc
166 g

Edirol R-09 HR
113 x 62 x 27 mm
189 cc
174 g

Tascam DR-07
137 x 55 x 27
204 cc
186 g

Zoom H2
110 x 64 x 32 mm
225 cc
166 g

The M10 is less than half the volume, and about half the weight of its big
brother, the PCM-D50.

Sony PCM-M10
114 x 62 x 22 mm
156 cc
187 g

Sony PCM-D50
155 x 72 x 33 mm
368 cc
365 g

For comparison, here are the numbers for two popular recorders designed to be
carried from the shoulder, rather than in a pocket.

Fostex FR-2LE
206 x 132 x 57 mm
1550 cc
907 g

Sound Devices 702
209 x 125 x 45 mm
1176 cc
1215 g
