As it has been noted here some time ago, the SONY HiMD recorders employ the= AK5356 that integrates both a low-noise preamplifier and the A/D converter= in a single chip. However, this particular chip only provides 20 bit resol= ution and a maximum sample rate of 44.1 kHz. So, it is unlikely that they c= an use the same chip in the upcoming PCM M-10 that is supposed to provide 2= 4 bit and 96 kHz(?). Though, I also hope that they have found another satisfying solution.
