Living in the UK I'm not an expert on the wildlife of North America, so I
can't help with most of the "mystery sounds" but I do recall something like
this from my childhood. One year we had a wasp nest within the frame of our
front door, and at night the colony produced a sound remarkably like
somebody snoring. I'm assuming it was to do with the wasps vibrating their
wings in order to circulate air within the nest. The fact that this sound i=

static, constant and up in the trees makes me wonder if it could be
something similar?
