Hi Nikolas -
Welcome!
I've been using the sony PCM-D50 this year - and really enjoy using it.
I've a short compilation of recordings here :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEF--xmeUak
If you have slow download rates then contact me off list to send the sound file
to you.
The first 3 I made this weekend with the built in mics, and the last 3 weeks
ago to show its use with a different rig setup.
All unedited.
For a reasonably loud bird, setting the recording level to 6 out of 10 to keep
the self noise at reasonable levels, then by sneeking the recorder to within 10
metres seems to produce an acceptable recording. I use a piece of false fur 23
x 14 cms wrapped over the mics and held in place with an elastic band to
control the wind - not perfect but a huge improvement over none.
Hope this helps.

Andrew
