Hi all This evening I noticed bats flying in the garden for the first time this year. I thought I would have a go at recording them with the LS-10 that was to hand. Using the built in mics and 24/96 I got the following typical spectrogram using Audacity. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3315/3474514282_c66705f91b_m.jpg Looking a bit more closely at it in Raven Lite I see most of the calls occupy 44 to 48 kHz. There also seem to be some a little lower at 40 to 42 kHz. I definately saw the bats so I'm sure the LS-10 recorded them. Must try some other microphone/recorder combinations. Also need to bone up on spectrogram (or should that be sonogram) viewing and analysis. Maybe a cheap heterodyne bat detector is in order:-) I seems the little Olympus is more versatile than I thought. It should also be capable of getting reasonable recordings of grasshoppers, crickets and other insects. Cheers TomR |
