To avoid the oops! factor, I take recorded cards out of the machine regularly
and replace with a spare card. I then use a card reader and transfer to laptop
or PC hard drive and then to CD or DVD-R if needed for secure archiving. That
way I can use the machine again sooner if necessary. I never re-format cards
until I have verified the transferred data.
Spreading recordings over a number of cards also offers the added security of
not loosing a whole project if something does go wrong. I use 4GB's. and
interchange as necessary, using one each for mornings, afternoons, evenings or
nights etc. or changing them with subject or location. My studio background has
given me a regime for notating session information which I find easy to follow
for location work. Its just a matter of getting into the habit.
