Re: Mr. Raven, I Presume?
I thought it was an serendipitous recording. The "quork" is typical of rave=
n syllables; it is too bad that no one understands the specific message in =
what the=A0birds are saying.=A0My work with a parrot shows similar natural =
sounds that are adapted to communicate human words. For example, animals in=
cluding some birds purr. So I hear my parrot contentedly purring, and all i=
s well. Yet, she amuses herself using a variation of a purr to say human wo=
rds, phrases, and sentences. When a native purr is broken at the rate of sp=
eech, one has a highly unusual and complex utterance. Most humans are not e=
xperienced with such sounds and as a result do not "hear" the words, which =
is a disconnect in their brain between the sound and the stored recognition=
for the word.=A0I had hoped some recordists would be interested in these p=
henomena. Alas ...=A0MikeFloridaSpeech samples located in tabular form at=
