I should have been a little more specific.
The mics used were a pair of NT1As, and the three recorders were all
set to high sensitivity (in the case of the 661 the mic attenuation
was set to 0dB. Then the mic gain was set to maximum 10 in the case
of the LS10 and 661, 30 for the HiMD unit.
The results confirmed my view that the LS-10's mic input was less
sensitive than I was used to with HiMD. The 661 seems to sit in between.
Yesterday I used the 661 with 3032's (in a lightweight, head spaced
boundary rig as in this photo,

but with 3032s not the triplets) and NT1A's (10 inches apart, 75
degree angle). Both sounded very good - but different. I think the
NT1A's cardioid response better suited that situation. It reduced the
background noise from the building and the neighbours.
I've just got back from slightly further afield using the 3032's in
the lightweight, head spaced boundary. Still a lot of off stage noise
(its half term so lots of school children about) but still sounded
good (to me at least:-)
I'm pleased with the purchase.
