I was interested in the LS-10, but these glitches seem worrying. I
also asked Doug Oade about small units. I was wondering which would be
the most suitable small unit for external mics. I was intereted
whether Doug did any mods for the LS-10 or the Sony PCM-D50, which
seemed to me like the best options (compact, well built and long
battery life).

Doug said he does not do any mods to the D50 or LS10 as he feels the
Marantz PMD 620 is a better design for a small deck. Does anyone here
have opinions about that? On the mic input noise page
<http://www.avisoft.com/recordertests.htm>
the Marantz PMD 620 has an EIN rating of -112dBu, which I think will
be far too noisy. Doug's "PMD 620 Super" mod seems like it may be
suitable for nature recording.

I am hoping to hear from Doug what the modded EIN value might be, but
would be interested to hear if any of you have any experience with
this unit in the field. It certainly is very small and seems to have a
good battery life.
