Whales often trumpet. Especially species that ply both littoral and
pelagic habitats. I have recordings of humpbacks
trumpeting 20 feet off our campsite on the northern tip of Chichagoff
Island (Icy Straights, Alaska, right across from the entrance to
Glacier Bay), in Glacier Bay as well. Also, killer whales trumpeting
and reverberating their vox off the rock cliffs of Johnstone Straight
along the eastern shore of Vancouver Island. It is a common expression
for several species.
