Hi
The MixPre has a 3.5mm tape output and a 3.5mm tape return. Plus you can ma=
ke up a 3.5mm to 2 x XLR's if you want. This gives you the advantage of sli=
ghtly higher gain, always useful when nature recording. If you make your ow=
n XLR leads only wire pins 1 & 2 with pin 1 being earth and pin 2 earth. It=
is to do with the 'electronic' balanced output.
Hope that helps.

Hi Philip
Looks great, but, it seems like that has XLR outputs though, so there is st=
ill the problem of getting it into the SONY PCM-D50 1/8th inch input. Or do=
es it have an easy way of doing that?

Hi
For what it's worth.
I looked at several pre-amps and in the end found that if you want a quiet =
mic pre then you really need to look at the Sound Devices MixPre. It has 'p=
robably' state-of-the- art mic preamps which come in a neat package that ru=
ns on the readily available AA cell. OK not cheap but if you were looking a=
t $300 pre-amps then you are not that far away really. I decided that havin=
g listened to the cheaper alternatives that the MixPre was indeed worth tha=
t bit extra in the end. You get phantom power as well plus a very usable me=
ter with which you can keep an eye on levels easily, all in a near package.=

Hi Paul
I found this mail you sent last year. I wanted to ask you offlist but
could not find how to mail you directly. I hope it's OK to ask on the
list like this. I put my question below:
