Flash memory prices have headed lower in the month of September. Today, the way to evaluate a deal on flash memory is to multiply by $3. For example: (4 GB * $3) = $12 so a price near $12 for a 4 GB flash memory card would be attractive. Sometimes the deals are considerably better than this. This weekend I saw offers of 4 GB for $10, 8 GB for $15, and 16 GB for $39. These offers were for SDHC memory cards. Compactflash cards are less popular, so they are generally a few dollars more expensive. The 1 GB and 2 GB flash memory cards are now being squeezed off the dealers' shelves by low cost 4 GB and 8 GB models. I expect dealers will repackage the small memory cards in groups of two or more. So be careful that the "4 GB" flash memory you're buying is not two 2 GB cards in the same package. --oryoki |
