Hi Ron, thanks you (and everyone who is responded). I am concentrating on the
whole
system since you said all... small electret mic...have more self noise
than...preamps of both
of these recorders.
Re: low self noise mics
I could not find prices on the telinga EM-23's, primo EM-23 capsules, schoeps
CCD-
L/MKs (anyone know?)
a pair of MBHO KA200 with its 630A mic bodies and active cables which connect
the
capsule to the mic body is close to $2,000 (out of my league & too much stuff).
A pair of DPA 4060 is just under $1,000, significantly more expensive than
$300+ for the
3032 (just as you said originally), but I wouldn't rule out (got to decide on
the system/s). A
pair of Shure WL-183 is $200.
The DPA rated at 23dB(A) might be worth it if their actual self noise is lower
by 5 to
10dB(A) as suggested by bruce meyers (pres. of DPA).
The 183s are listed by Benjamin at 20.5 and 22 an message of yours. and close
to 14dB (A)
in a message from Dan (I think) .."Or slightly large than the 183's, Klas
Stranberg's Telinga
"EM-23's" which he builds out of the Primosound EM-23 capsules that he reports
to have ~14dB(A) self noise and about the same output as 183's."
BUT I'm not only looking for a quiet mic, I want a pair of mics that sounds
smooth and full
in the midrange with good sound separation and NOT bright...
How does the 3032 sound?
There are two non scientific comparisons between the 4060 and the 4006 at the
following
link (the second comparison is more interesting to me).

I love listening to one of these mics!
I know the clips are music but ... you gotta.
