Hello --
I'm working on the sound for a noncommercial feature-length ethnographic vi=
deo that
documents sheepherders in the greater Yellowstone area, taking their herds =
up to
pastures in the mountains for the summer and back down at the end of the se=
ason. It's in
the finishing stages, and will be a beautiful piece. But my friend and col=
league who is
making it recorded all the sound direct to a video camera, often using two =
wireless lav
mics attached to the sheepherders for the two channels available. It was a=
one-person
crew, with no sound recordist. As a result, what's lacking as I do the sou=
nd mix is stereo
ambiences that give a sense of the wide-open space up in the mountains, whi=
ch I would
like to mix with the lav mics.
Would anyone happen to have such recordings that they would be willing to d=
iscuss
sharing? My friend cares deeply that the soundtrack be species-correct, so=
we don't want
to just go somewhere nearby to record something passable (we're in Boston).=
Parts of the
piece consist of long takes, so we're looking for relatively long recording=
s of Yellowstone-
area environments. (If absolutely necessary, I may try to make a trip out =
there just to
record sound, but obviously that's a bit extravagant in terms of use of fue=
l and funds etc.
so I thought I'd check in with you all first.)
If anyone might have a recommendation or can be of help, please contact me =
and I'll tell
you more about the project.
thanks very much!
Ernst
