I haven't been following this thread - here in Brisbane Australian Magpies
are common and are the friendliest of all our local birds. They commonly
forage on grassed footpaths (side-walks?) and don't bother to fly as I walk
past. (Occasional rogue ones attack passing pedestrians, and especially
cyclists, when they have a current nest, but most do not, and there is a
theory that the ones that do attack, have been first attacked in some way b=
y
humans.)
But I mainly write to draw attention to a two-CD set recently released by
the British Library, "Beautiful Bird Songs from Around the World". No. 17
on CD 1 is of an Australian Magpie, recorded by Vicki Powys who sometimes
posts to this list, and is the Sound Editor for the Australian Wildlife
Sound Recording Group.
There are six Australian birds in the set.
