Within the last week there was a video podcast, in the Discovery Channel news channel (I think), about a researcher studying spider mating rituals.= Using a laser microphone (sort of an interferometer, I think) he recorded the sound the male spider made, in addition to waving legs around. Turns ou= t most of the show was sound (well, vibration, spiders don't have ears), not= motion. Very interesting, with sound that had surprising fidelity and littl= e noise. The sound stage was made of nylon hose material in a needlepoint frame. An option, anyway. Probably more expensive than the phono cartridge. Bruce Wilson KF7K http://science.uvsc.edu/wilson |
