I agree. 50dB seemed like a lot, though. I have been assuming that
nature recordists typically like to listen to environments boosted
maybe 20dB in level, but that's off the top of my head and now I
should do some measurements.

The relationship between the natural and the amplified listening
levels has nothing to do with the amound of preamp gain we use,
typically 50-60dB.
